This experimental film uses layers of projected digital and 16mm film from our residency in which we sailed to St Kilda to paint a journey at sea. I use this method of creating film by layering projections to find a physical way to edit and collage images from intangible formats.

The film explores how we have learned to navigate the sea, as a metaphor for how we manage our journey into new oceans of digital information we live in today. It invites us to reflect on our relationship with technology, connectivity and mental health as we live through such change.

Alongside the film I am presenting a set of digital prints, that highlight key moments in the story, and make them tangible. The relationship between the layers both allows for chance and subjective interpretations whilst also illustrating chapters of the project.
