My work has always been concerned with technology and Indeed I will be developing my research into our relationship with the online as my main focus for the second half of this year. Through this I will develop a short experimental film that reflects on the effect of Navigating Digital spaces and seas of information us, using the metaphor of past nautical technological innovation as a cue.
Its about acknowledging that we are at the very dawn of our days traversing digital territory and as we become more aware of the affects on us, need to develop the equivalent support network as that of maps, radar, lighthouses of these online spaces.
I will develop this a lot over the coming months as I have committed to undertaking two artist residencies, first through An Lanntair art centre sailing from Berneray to St Kilda in June, and secondly through Arteles creative centre in Fnland, where I will spend all of July on a residency ‘disconnected’ from the online.
This will be an ideal way to build on my preliminary research into this area that was reflected in my time in residence at Brighton Digital Festival (residency interview here may be a useful intro to my thinking). I will be applying for support for the focused development of this work from autumn onwards, and am committed to developing this in due course.
